" What does Fry mean by this bold statement of his. The only way I believe this quote can be tackled by first think about what literature does for me. Reading to me, takes one to a fantasy land. Think about it, if you read talking Lord of the Rings, one is automatically placed in the time and land of habits, wizards, and ogars. Is this what Northup Fry means though, most likely not. Reading is a workout of the mind. The vast information that can be gained from reading is amazing! It is this mental work out that brings us to a higher level of consciousness.
